Just what are you supposed to do when Burning Man is over with all that art that was widely heralded as the coolest thing on the playa but your wife has told you is definitely not going back into the garage?
A group of local artists are installing the first ever Art Landfill on 85 acres of privately owned property near the northern edge of the Black Rock Desert. And what better place to acquire high-quality art in need of long term storage than Burning Man?
Contributions to the Art Landfill Project are by juried inclusion only. Please E-mail csx@Playazon for an application and submission requirements. Applications must include a visual representation of the finished piece (transparencies are preferred though conceptual illustrations will be accepted for works in progress) and an estimated compacted volume.
A list of materials must also be attached and you will be asked to certify that your art will not include materials that are flammable, toxic, or smelly. A non-refundable $25 submission fee must accompany your completed application.
Once submitted, you will receive an E-mail from Michael Govan - the Art Landfill Administrator - indicating that your preliminary application has been received. In early August, you will receive an E-mail from the Art Landfill administrator stating that your application has either been accepted which means that your art will be eligible for physical inspection on the playa, or denied, which means that your art will not be eligible for inclusion in the Art Landfill.
Final acceptance to the Art Landfill Project is subject to inspection by the Art Landfill Jury. One art work per application. Submissions must be postmarked no later than July 1st. If accepted you will be responsible for transporting your piece to the Art Landfill site. All decisions by the Art Landfill Jury are final.
Sorry, conceptual art or anything constructed of meat will not be considered.
